چکیده

Phased arrays have long been used by the military for radar applications, but have only been recently applied to consumer applications. In a phased array system, one or more narrow beams are generated by transmitting (or receiving) a common RF signal that is phase shifted at the output of each antenna in the array such that the direction of the beams can be varied by controlling the phase difference between consecutive antennas. Microwave transceivers for phased-array radar applications have traditionally been fabricated in III-V technologies like GaAs and InP due to their superior fT and fmax. However, modern-day CMOS and BiCMOS technology nodes are now exhibiting fT and fmax in the range of 200 to 250GHz, tipping the scales in favor of silicon due to its higher integration capability, lower costs and the availability of significant digital signal processing. Recent designs in CMOS have shown its capability to handle millimeter-wave frequencies [1-3].

A 24-GHz Phased-Array Receiver in 0.13-μm CMOS using an 8-GHz LO

This paper presents a 24-GHz two-channel phasedarray receiver. The receiver adopts the LO-phase-shifting approach and employs a sub-harmonically injection-locked phaseshifter. A CMOS-only prototype, fabricated in a 130-nm SiGe BiCMOS technology, draws 16-mA of current from a 1.5-V supply and consists of a injection-locked oscillator (operating as a phase-shifter, LO-buffer and frequency multipl...

Dual Phase Detector Based Delay Locked Loop for High Speed Applications

In this paper a new architecture for delay locked loops will be presented.  One of problems in phase-frequency detectors (PFD) is static phase offset or reset path delay. The proposed structure decreases the jitter resulted from PFD by switching two PFDs. In this new architecture, a conventional PFD is used before locking of DLL to decrease the amount of phase difference between input and outpu...

Microwave Integrated Phased-array Transmitters in Silicon Thesis By

Phased-array systems, a special case of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems, take advantage of spatial directivity and array gain to increase spectral efficiency. Implementing a phased-array system at high frequency in a commercial silicon process technology presents several challenges. This thesis focuses on the architectural and circuit-level trade-offs involved in the design of the...

Fractal Bandpass Filter Using Y-shaped Dual-Mode Resonator for C-Band Receiver (Research Note)

In this study, a fractal, Y-shaped dual-mode resonator bandpass filter (BPF) with input-output cross-coupling is introduced. A parallel-coupling feed structure with a cross coupling has been used to generate two transmission zeroes (TZs) near the lower and upper cutoff frequency that can effectively improve the passband edge selectivity. Also, a fractal shaped based on conventional diamond and ...

Design of a Beam-Switching Active Microstrip Antenna Array - IEEE Microwave and Guided Wave Letters

An active microstrip antenna array with dual switching beams were developed and demonstrated. The array contained several active antennas and an extra amplifier-embedded coupling (microstrip) line. Two injection-locking signals were used in the design, that is, the free-space mutual coupling between antennas and the injection signal on the coupling line tapped from the first oscillator in the a...
